Our work in North London
Since June 2024 our engineers have completed 195 jobs at 131 addresses in North and North West London postcodes. That is a real count from our job system, not a marketing figure. Our busiest areas are NW9, N10, N1, NW6, NW11, N20, N6, NW4 and N15.
The work we do most often here:
- EICRs for landlords, letting agents and housing providers, with remedial work by the same team.
- Planned and responsive repairs in sheltered housing: lighting, sockets, storage heaters, emergency lights and warden call.
- Lighting, including garden and exterior lighting, floodlights and dimmers.
- Fault finding: tripping sockets, loss of power and call-outs after a leak or flood.
- Fuse boards and rewires in period houses and converted flats.
North London boroughs: housing and landlord licensing
Every borough is different. These figures shape the work we do and the paperwork landlords need.
| Borough | Homes | Licensing for landlords (October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Barnet | Mostly houses: 52.5% of households, more semis and detached homes than the other three boroughs. 32.7% rent privately. | Additional HMO licensing borough-wide until 27 October 2027. Selective licensing was consulted on in 2026 and is not yet in force. |
| Haringey | 54.3% of properties built before 1919. 22.8% of households live in flats in converted houses. 35.6% rent privately. | Selective licensing in 14 wards until 17 November 2027, and you upload an EICR with the application. Additional HMO licensing borough-wide until June 2029. |
| Camden | 86.6% flats, and 26.2% of households are in converted houses, the highest share of these four. 35.6% rent privately. | Additional HMO licensing borough-wide from 8 December 2025. The council checklist asks for an EICR issued in the last five years. |
| Islington | 83.6% flats. 31.2% rent privately and 40.2% rent from the council or a housing association. | Additional HMO licensing borough-wide until 31 January 2031. Selective licensing in three wards, and in seven more from 23 November 2026. The EICR must be satisfactory and under five years old. |
Housing figures: Census 2021 (ONS), share of households; pre-1919 figure: VOA via the Health Foundation. Licensing: council websites, checked October 2026. Schemes change, so always check with the council.
How we work in North London
Our engineers are employed by SEG and NICEIC registered. They are dispatched from SEG House in Chiswell Green, St Albans, just off the M25 and M1. We plan London jobs by area, so you get a fixed appointment and an engineer who knows the area. Every job is photographed, and you get certificates you can file.
Landlords and housing providers with several properties can ask about programme rates for EICRs. For offices, shops and schools, see commercial electrician in London.
Questions about North London
Do you cover North London from St Albans?
Yes. SEG House is just off the M25 and M1, and we have completed 195 jobs at 131 addresses in North and North West London postcodes since June 2024. We group London work by area, so your engineer is usually already working nearby.
Which North London areas do you cover?
Barnet, Haringey, Camden and Islington, plus the neighbouring parts of Brent and Hackney. Our busiest postcodes are NW9, N10, N1, NW6, NW11, N20, N6, NW4 and N15.
Do I need an EICR to license my rental in North London?
Usually, yes. Camden, Islington and Haringey ask for an EICR with licence applications, and Barnet, Haringey, Camden and Islington all run borough-wide additional HMO licensing. Check the council’s current rules for your property, then send us the address and we will book the inspection.
Can you come out for an emergency in North London?
Call us. If an engineer is already in North London we can often get there the same day. If we can’t reach you quickly, we will tell you straight away so you can call someone closer.
Do you work on period houses and converted flats?
Yes. Much of North London’s housing is Victorian or Edwardian, often split into flats. We test and rewire older properties, including shared supplies and communal areas.
