Small electrical jobs, done properly

One socket, a new light, a fan or a cooker to connect. We’ll come out for one small job, or do a list of them in one visit.

Bathroom extractor fan replacement in St Albans

Most of our work isn’t big rewires. It’s the one socket that stopped working, the fan that’s gone quiet, the outside light you’ve wanted for a year, or a cooker that needs connecting before the weekend. We’re happy to come out for one small job, and if you’ve got a few, we’ll do them in one visit.

What counts as a small job

  • Sockets and switches: adding a socket, moving one, swapping to USB sockets, replacing a cracked or scorched faceplate.
  • Lights: new pendants and fittings, downlights, outside lights, sensor lights, a light that won’t work.
  • Appliances: connecting a cooker or hob, a spur for a washing machine, dishwasher or boiler.
  • Fans: bathroom and kitchen extractor fans, new or replacement. See extractor fan not working.
  • Alarms: replacing mains smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms.
  • Faults: a tripping circuit, a dead socket, flickering lights. See plug socket not working and RCD keeps tripping.
  • Outside: an outdoor socket, garden or security lighting.
  • Taking things out safely: old cameras, doorbells, sockets in a greenhouse or shed, a light before decorating.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need. Call, or use the quote form and add a photo or two. Photos of the socket, light or fuse board save a lot of back and forth.
  2. We book a slot. We ask what’s involved so we can bring the right parts and finish in one visit where we can.
  3. We do it properly. The same NICEIC-approved engineers who do our larger work, tested before we leave, and you get a photo report.
  4. Paperwork where it’s needed. Work that changes your wiring gets a certificate. New circuits, a new fuse board, and additions or alterations to circuits in a bathroom are notifiable under Building Regulations Part P; we notify it for you.

Our work comes with a 12-month workmanship guarantee. If something is urgent (no power, a burning smell, sparking) see emergency electrician in St Albans or sparking socket or burning smell.

Get more from one visit

  • Make a list. Walk round the house first: the dead socket, the light that flickers, the outside tap light you’ve always wanted. Several jobs in one visit usually costs less than separate visits.
  • Have the fittings ready. If you’re choosing your own lights or fans, have them on site and check they’re UK-rated. Bathroom fittings need the right IP rating for where they go.
  • Clear access to the fuse board and the loft hatch if we’ll need them.
  • Ask about an EICR if the house hasn’t been checked in years. We can do it on the same visit and you’ll know where you stand. See how much an EICR costs.

Questions we’re asked

Will you come out for just one small job?

Yes. Recent jobs include a single new socket, a lamp rewire and a carbon monoxide alarm replacement. If you have a few small jobs, we'll do them in one visit.

What do you need from me to book a small job?

What you need doing, the address, and if possible a photo of the socket, light or fuse board involved. Photos help us bring the right parts so the job is done in one visit.

Do I get a certificate for a small job?

Work that changes your wiring gets a certificate. New circuits, a new fuse board, and additions or alterations to circuits in a bathroom are notifiable under Part P, and as an NICEIC-approved contractor we notify it for you.

Can you fit lights or fans I've bought myself?

Usually, yes. Have them on site, check they're made for the UK, and for bathrooms check the IP rating suits where they're going. We'll tell you before we start if something isn't suitable.

Which areas do you cover for small jobs?

St Albans and the towns around it, across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North and West London. Recent small jobs include St Albans, Harpenden, Hertford, Hatfield, Hitchin, Letchworth, Luton, Barnet and Wheathampstead.

Is my small job urgent?

A burning smell, sparking, a hot socket, water near electrics or no power is urgent: switch off and call us. Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, an engineer is on site within one hour in St Albans and the surrounding towns.
