Commercial LED lighting: designed, installed and certified.
Offices, shops, warehouses, schools and blocks of flats across St Albans, Hertfordshire and London: new LED lighting with sensors and daylight control, and the emergency lighting put right in the same visit.

Lighting is usually the quickest electrical saving a building can make, and the one tenants and staff notice first. We replace fluorescent, halogen and old LED fittings with new LED, redesign the layout where the old one never worked, add sensors and daylight control, and bring the emergency lighting up to date in the same visit.
Where we fit commercial LED lighting
- Offices: LED panels and linear fittings in suspended ceilings, with occupancy sensors in meeting rooms, toilets and stores.
- Shops and showrooms: downlights, track and feature lighting from first fix to lights-on, timed around trading hours.
- Warehouses and workshops: high-bay and linear LED on racking aisles, with sensors so empty aisles go dark.
- Schools and halls: classrooms, corridors, sports halls and external lighting across a school site.
- Blocks of flats and sheltered housing: communal corridors, stairwells and entrances, where lights run 24 hours a day and the saving is largest. See Tamlite lighting in Stevenage sheltered housing.
- Car parks, yards and buildings: LED floodlights, column lighting and dusk-to-dawn fittings. See security lighting.
Why businesses are upgrading now
Three reasons come up on almost every job. Running cost: LED needs roughly half the electricity of fluorescent for the same light, and up to 80% less than halogen, and lights that only come on when someone is there cut it again. Maintenance: a fluorescent tube and its ballast fail every few years and need a ladder and a visit; a good LED fitting is rated for tens of thousands of hours. Supply: fluorescent tubes are being phased out under the RoHS rules, so replacements are getting harder and dearer to buy, and a fitting that is converted to LED tube by tube rarely gives the light or the warranty a new fitting does.
Lux levels, colour temperature and controls
We design to the light levels the standards expect rather than guessing: around 500 lux on a desk for office work under BS EN 12464-1, less in corridors and stores, more on fine assembly or inspection benches. Colour temperature is chosen per area (see our guide to warm white and cool white: 3000 K for hospitality and reception, 4000 K for offices and workshops). Controls are where the second saving sits: PIR and microwave presence detection, daylight dimming on the window side, absence detection in cellular offices, and DALI or a simple time clock where the building needs scenes or scheduling. Every fitting is on the right circuit, labelled, and the design is left with the building.
Emergency lighting in the same visit
If the building has escape routes, it needs emergency lighting, and a relighting job is the cheapest time to put it right: combined emergency LED fittings on the escape route, self-test units where access is awkward, exit signs that match BS 5266-1, and the three-hour test and certificate at the end. We do the same with fire alarm detectors that sit in the same ceiling.
Recent commercial LED lighting work
- A secondary school in Ware: LED lamp posts, in-ground path lights and canopy lighting across the site, so pupils and parents can see at 4 pm in December.
- A charity in Archway, N19: LED fittings throughout and new sockets, done around the charity’s opening hours.
- Sheltered housing in Stevenage: Tamlite LED corridor, lounge and plant-room lighting with sensors.
- Communal lighting in a block of flats, Stevenage, part of the 280+ Stevenage blocks we have worked in for Mulalley and Wates, including solar-powered lighting to eight garage blocks.
- A shop fit-out in London: downlights and track from first fix to lights-on, October 2026.
- LED floodlights in Hampstead Garden Suburb and floodlights on a T-bar at a yard in Frogmore.
- Runners World, St Albans: the shop, store and office lighting, plus CCTV.
Commercial LED lighting in St Albans
SEG House in Chiswell Green, St Albans, is lit by the LED fittings we recommend, and most of our St Albans commercial customers (see the St Albans commercial page) have had lighting work from us: a running shop, a church hall and the offices and units around the city. A survey takes an hour; we count the fittings, meter the circuits where it helps, and send a quote with the expected running-cost saving so you can see the payback. For a whole site, ask about a phased programme under a maintenance contract.
Questions we’re asked
How much does commercial LED lighting save?
It depends on what you have now and how long it runs. As a rule of thumb, LED uses about half the electricity of fluorescent for the same light and up to 80% less than halogen; adding presence and daylight control usually saves a further 20 to 40% in offices and corridors. We put the expected saving on the quote.
Can you replace fluorescent tubes with LED tubes instead of new fittings?
Yes, and for a tidy fitting in good condition it can be the right call. Often it is not: the ballast still fails, the diffuser is yellowed, and the light pattern is wrong for the room. We tell you which fittings are worth converting and which are worth replacing.
Will the lights be off while you work?
Only in the area being worked on, and we phase the job so shops trade, offices keep working and corridors stay lit. Evening and weekend work is available where the business cannot have engineers around in the day.
Do we need emergency lighting as well?
If the premises has escape routes and people in it, yes. Most buildings already have some; a relighting job is the cheapest moment to bring it up to BS 5266-1 and get a proper test certificate.
What colour temperature should an office be?
Usually 4000 K (cool white) for offices, workshops and warehouses, 3000 K for hospitality, waiting rooms and anywhere people are meant to relax. Mixing the two on one ceiling looks wrong, so we plan it per area.
Do you provide certificates and a lighting design?
Yes. New circuits and alterations are tested and certified, and you get a layout showing fitting types, lux targets and control zones so the next person to touch it knows what was done.
