CCTV maintenance and servicing
Clean lenses, working recordings and footage you can actually use: what a CCTV service covers, how often, and our maintenance contracts.

CCTV fails quietly. A camera gets knocked, a lens gets dirty, a drive fills up, and nobody notices until the day you need the footage. A service visit checks the whole system works, from the lens to the recorder to the app.
What a CCTV service covers
This is the checklist our engineers work to:
- Visual inspection: cameras, housings and cables checked for damage; positions and angles still covering what they should; lenses cleaned.
- Camera performance: image quality, focus, colour and night vision; pan, tilt and zoom where fitted; no flicker or distortion.
- Cables and connections: wear and damage, secure connections, and every camera’s feed checked at the recorder.
- Recording and storage: the recorder and drive health, enough space to record continuously, overwrite set, and playback tested.
- Power: power supplies and any backup power, and how the system copes with a power cut.
- Lighting: enough light for clear pictures at night, and no glare or backlighting spoiling the image.
- Access and users: app access working, old users removed, time and date correct, firmware up to date.

How often should CCTV be serviced?
At least once a year for most homes and businesses. Busy sites, systems your insurer relies on, and outside cameras in dirty or exposed spots are worth servicing twice a year. If you’re a business, the ICO expects you to check regularly that your system works and that footage is kept no longer than you need.
CCTV maintenance contracts
- Planned service visits on dates that suit you.
- Call-outs when something fails between visits.
- One contract for CCTV, access control, door entry and the electrics, if you want it.
- For cloud-managed Verkada systems, our sister company SEGcore (a Verkada Gold Partner) looks after them.
Already have a contract? Send it to us and we’ll see if we can beat it. See also commercial electrical maintenance.
A real service: two buildings in Holborn, October 2024
For two residential buildings in London WC1, our engineer Alan cleaned every camera, checked each view on the recorder (front doors, lobbies and basement entrances), and photographed the results.

Questions we’re asked
How often should CCTV be serviced?
At least once a year for most systems, and twice a year for busy or exposed sites or where your insurer relies on the cameras.
What does a CCTV service include?
Cleaning and checking every camera, image quality and night vision, cables and connections, the recorder and hard drive, playback, power supplies, lighting, app access, time and date, and firmware.
Do you offer CCTV maintenance contracts?
Yes, for homes and businesses: planned visits on dates that suit you, and call-outs between visits. We can combine CCTV with access control, door entry and electrical maintenance.
Do you service systems you didn't install?
Yes. We service most makes, including UniFi Protect. Verkada systems are supported by our sister company SEGcore, a Verkada Gold Partner.
Does a business have to maintain its CCTV?
The ICO expects businesses using CCTV to check regularly that it works properly and that footage is kept only as long as needed. A service visit is the simple way to show that.
