What we do for St Albans businesses
- Testing and compliance: fixed wire testing (commercial EICRs), emergency lighting testing, PAT testing and fire alarm servicing, with certificates and logbooks your insurer and fire risk assessor can read.
- Installations and fit-outs: new circuits, distribution boards, LED lighting, power for kitchens and air conditioning, and sub-main upgrades.
- Security and data: CCTV, access control, door entry and data cabling and Wi-Fi.
- EV charging: chargers for staff and customer car parks.
- Repairs and call-outs: faults, tripping, no power, damaged fittings and storm damage. See emergency electrician St Albans.
- Maintenance contracts: one schedule for testing, servicing and repairs. Already have one? Send it to us and we’ll try to beat it.
How we work with businesses
- Around your opening hours: early starts, evenings or weekends by arrangement, so shops, surgeries and care homes keep running.
- One point of contact and a written quote before any work starts. Extra work found on site is agreed with you first.
- Proper paperwork: NICEIC certificates, test results and photos, sent the same week.
- Our own team: employed electricians and apprentices, not subcontractors, with insurance and accreditations you can check on our company details page.

Questions we’re asked
Do you work outside business hours?
Yes, by arrangement. We often work early, in the evening or at weekends so shops, offices and care homes can stay open. We agree the times and any out-of-hours rate in the quote.
How quickly can you get to a business in St Albans?
Our head office is in Chiswell Green, about three miles away. In office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm) we can usually have an engineer with you within the hour for an emergency. Phones are answered 7am to 10pm, seven days a week.
How often does a commercial property need an EICR?
The law requires the installation to be kept safe; the IET's guidance recommends intervals by type of premises, typically up to five years for offices and shops, and more often for some uses. Your insurer may set its own. See our fixed wire testing page for the details.
Are you NICEIC approved?
Yes. The Specialist Electrical Group Ltd is an NICEIC Approved Contractor, and our certificates are issued under that scheme.
Can you take over our existing maintenance contract?
Yes. Send us your current contract or schedule of rates and we'll review it. If we can give you better value or better cover, we'll quote to beat it. If we can't, we'll tell you.
