A new parish office, reliable Wi-Fi and a 17-unit Aico RadioLINK+ fire and carbon monoxide alarm system at St Bartholomew’s RC Church, St Albans.
St Bartholomew's RC Church needed a new parish office with power and data, reliable Wi-Fi across its buildings, and later an interlinked fire and carbon monoxide alarm system for the hall and ancillary rooms. Works were timed around services.

What we found
- Existing router sat on a shelf with no cabinet
- Existing network switch was already at capacity - an extra access point needed a bigger switch
- Community hall about 16m x 9m with a 5m ceiling - three smoke alarms recommended for earlier detection rather than the minimum two
What we did
- 2025 - office: new ring final circuit on a 32A RCBO, new sockets (incl. client-supplied USB socket) and data points
- Ran Cat6 through the loft to the new data points, fire-sealing all penetrations
- Fitted a Ring doorbell with transformer on its own 6A RCBO
- Installed a new switch for the external floodlight with 1.5mm SWA cleated at 300mm
- Set up guest and office Wi-Fi with an access point in the hall
- Installed a wall-mounted data cabinet with PDU, Cambium cnMatrix PoE switch and the BT router, plus an extra Cambium access point
- 2026 - installed an Aico RadioLINK+ system: 8 Ei650i optical smoke alarms, 2 Ei630i heat alarms, 5 Ei208 CO alarms, Ei450 controller and Ei1000G gateway (17 units)
- Wired the alarm controller and fitted the gateway on a spur down-rated to a 3A fuse
- Paired and house-coded all alarms, set up the user account, demonstrated the test button and emailed the AudioLINK/installation report
