LD1 fire alarms for a sheltered housing scheme in Walthamstow.

Mains-powered, interlinked Aico smoke alarms in every flat, part of our LD1 programme for United Infrastructure across east London sheltered housing.

Galvanised steel conduit on the brick wall over an entrance at a sheltered housing scheme in Walthamstow

Part of our LD1 fire alarm programme for United Infrastructure across sheltered housing in east London. At this scheme in Walthamstow we are fitting mains-powered, interlinked Aico smoke alarms in the four flats and the guest suite. The building is older brick with solid walls, so where the cable routes run outside they go in galvanised steel conduit.

What we found

  • Solid brick walls, so the new cable routes run on the surface rather than being chased in
  • Copper pipework and older conduit already on the walls by the entrances, so the new runs had to be set out around them
  • Each flat sized by its number of bedrooms, so the alarm count is worked out flat by flat

What we did

  • Mains-powered Aico Ei3016 smoke alarms in the lounge, each bedroom and the hallway of every flat
  • A hardwired Aico Ei1529RC remote test switch in each flat, in an easy-to-reach place
  • Hardwired interlinks, so every alarm in a flat sounds together
  • Galvanised steel conduit on the outside walls, set out level and plumb with a laser line
  • Testing and commissioning to BS 5839-6:2019 Grade D1, Category LD1

Equipment used

  • Aico Ei3016 mains smoke alarms
  • Aico Ei1529RC hardwired remote test switches
  • Galvanised steel conduit and fittings

Paperwork: Fire alarm commissioning certificate (BS 5839-6); Electrical Installation or Minor Works Certificate.
