What we found
- Exposed single insulation and loose connectors under kitchen base units; one cable with no connector at all
- Twin and earth laid in the floor screed with no mechanical protection
- LED floor lights with bare cables and no circuit protective conductor continued to metal fittings
- Earths twisted together unsleeved in the appliance grid switch; oven cable came out of its terminal
- Loose neutrals and damaged cables on the ground-floor sockets; a broken double socket
- Board incorrectly labelled; the previous EIC ticked board replacement but recorded only 3 circuits and listed Type AC RCDs where Type A were fitted
What we did
- Visual audit of the extension works with a written list of concerns
- Full EICR of the installation
- Re-terminated the kitchen appliance grid switch
- Dropped and re-made ground-floor sockets to cure loose neutrals and restore continuity
- Replaced the damaged double socket
- Made bare cables safe under the units
- Tested both Type A RCDs (pass)
- Relabelled the consumer unit correctly
Equipment used
- Kewtech KT63DL tester
Paperwork: EICR.
