A home EV charger that kept losing Wi-Fi, hard-wired in Letchworth.
The Indra charger was only getting about 4 Mbps over Wi-Fi. We ran an external-grade network cable from the router, certified it on a Fluke Networks tester and got the charger back online.

A homeowner’s Indra Smart PRO EV charger kept dropping its Wi-Fi connection. We diagnosed it, then hard-wired a network cable from the router to the charger.

What we found
- Only about 4 Mbps reached the charger over Wi-Fi. Indra’s installation manual asks for at least 10 Mbps
- The home broadband is 150 Mbps, so the distance from the router was the problem
- The charger has a network (RJ45) port, so a wired connection was possible
- A cable route was planned along the outside wall, through the loft and behind the insulation boards
What we did
- Ran an external-grade network cable from the router to the charger
- Clipped it along the outside wall and down from the soffit, sealing every entry hole
- Routed it through the loft and behind the insulation boards, as the homeowner asked
- Fitted trunking and terminated the cable on RJ45 connectors at both ends, then labelled it
- Certified the link with a Fluke Networks tester (wire map: PASS)
- Powered the charger up and confirmed it ready and back online
Equipment used
- Indra Smart PRO charger (existing, not installed by us)
- Fluke Networks cable tester
- MT2 trunking
- RJ45 connectors
