Extra sockets, new downlights and dimmers, a new bathroom fan, and a bedroom circuit made safer, all timed around the plumber and carpet fitters.

FuseBox consumer unit closed and labelled after the works

What we found

  • TN-S earthing
  • Bedroom ring on a 32A Type A RCBO with many spurs, some untraceable under the floor - RCBO needed downgrading to 16A
  • One existing socket showed signs of thermal damage
  • Living-room two-way lighting incorrectly terminated, switching the wrong way
  • Fan timer not working because a 3-core feed was not terminated

What we did

  • Adapted the bedroom ring to add four double sockets with USB-A and USB-C and a switched fused spur for LED tape
  • Chased cable routes into oval conduit and ran cables through joists via 25mm holes
  • Changed the ring RCBO to 16A and torqued to the correct setting
  • Replaced the thermally damaged socket and other doubles with USB versions
  • Installed six GU10 downlights in the spare room and white dimmer switches
  • Fitted a PIR in the utility room and corrected the living-room switching
  • Replaced the bathroom inline fan and set its timer
  • Checked gas and water bonding and tested Ze, PFC and RCBO trip times

Equipment used

  • USB-A/USB-C double sockets
  • GU10 downlights
  • White dimmer switches
  • Inline extractor fan
  • PIR sensor
  • FuseBox 16A RCBO
