Private homes, lit properly.
Pools and spas, lighting control, cinema rooms and garden lighting in some of the most demanding homes around Hertfordshire and north London.

Our director Michael Simm has led the electrical and lighting work on some of the most demanding private homes in Hertfordshire and north London. The same people and the same standards are behind every SEGplc job. Where we still look after a home, we say so.
Private residence, Totteridge
A large family home with a basement pool and spa. The lighting is layered room by room: concealed LED cove and plinth lighting, feature pendants, lit stairwells and recessed bathroom niches, with facade and garden lighting designed to be seen from the house at dusk. Photographed professionally on completion. Now maintained by SEGplc.
Contemporary home, Radlett
A large modern house finished in white render and weathered steel. Lighting control throughout, with a central rack of Rako modules, colour-change LED feature lighting and full external lighting. Now maintained by SEGplc.
Contemporary new builds, Radlett
A small development of new houses, from first fix to handover: full electrical installation, Rako lighting control, fire detection, and external and garden lighting.
Family home, Radlett
A large family home with a cascading glass chandelier hung through the full height of the stairwell, cove lighting, wall lights, a home cinema and lit bathroom niches. The chandelier was assembled and hung on site by the electrical team.
Private residence, Hampstead
A house built around entertaining: a games room with lit signage, a dedicated cinema room, a mirrored dressing room with LED plinth lighting, and cove ceilings throughout.
What these homes have in common
- Planned at first fix. Lighting scenes, switch positions, data, AV and control cabling agreed on the drawings before the plaster goes on.
- Lighting control. Systems such as Lutron HomeWorks and Rako, wired and installed by the electrical team and programmed with the system specialist. See smart home and lighting control for how the main systems compare.
- Special locations. Pools, spas, saunas and steam rooms each have their own rules in BS 7671, and we design them with the pool or spa supplier. See pool, spa and sauna electrics.
- Garden lighting. Uplit trees, lit steps and facade lighting on the same control as the house. See garden and exterior lighting.
- Data and AV. Structured cabling, racks and Wi-Fi so the cinema, cameras and control systems have a solid network. See data cabling.
- Looked after afterwards. Testing, maintenance and fault response from the same team that knows the house.
Frequently asked questions
Who led these projects?
Each one was led by our director, Michael Simm, who was at the forefront of the electrical and lighting work from design to handover. We still maintain two of the homes shown, in Totteridge and Radlett.
Can you wire a swimming pool, spa or sauna?
Yes. Pools, spas and saunas are special locations under the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), with their own rules on zones, protection and equipment. We plan them with the pool or spa supplier from the start, so plant, lighting and controls are designed together.
Do you work with architects, interior designers and AV integrators?
Yes, and on homes like these that is normal. We work from the lighting and interior design, wire for the lighting control, AV and data systems, and coordinate with the integrator who programmes them.
Do you look after homes once they are finished?
Yes. Large homes have a lot of equipment: lighting control, pool and spa plant, data racks, CCTV and fire detection. We offer planned maintenance and testing, and a direct line for faults.
Where do you work?
Mainly Hertfordshire and north London: St Albans, Harpenden, Radlett, Totteridge, Hampstead and the surrounding areas. For larger projects we travel further.
Locations are given by area only, to protect our clients’ privacy. Totteridge photographs taken by a professional photographer; all other photographs taken on site. Written by SEGplc. Last updated 11 October 2026.
Need it done by a date?
Tell us the deadline. We’ll tell you honestly whether we can hit it — and we usually can.
