An old Wylex board replaced in Radlett, and the faults it was hiding.
Several circuits had no RCD protection. A new all-RCBO board with surge protection fixed that, and testing it uncovered faults we then traced and put right.

The homeowner's old Wylex split-load board left many circuits without RCD protection. SEG replaced it with a modern all-RCBO consumer unit with surge protection, then traced and fixed faults the new board's testing revealed.

What we found
- Old Wylex board with a single 30mA RCCB and several circuits not RCD protected; mixed old and new wiring colours
- High R1+R2 readings on kitchen and hallway sockets - multiple spurred sockets and a suspected underfloor junction box
- Some cables connected to breakers but left off
- 69.4V measured between line and earth on upstairs lighting cables
- Damaged socket at the top of the stairs
What we did
- Replaced the board with a FuseBox consumer unit: 100A main switch, Type 2 SPD and individual 30mA RCBOs (B6, B16, B32)
- Labelled the new board and circuits
- Investigated and rectified the high R2 on the kitchen ring by checking terminations
- Investigated bedroom and lounge socket circuits
- Replaced the damaged socket in the hallway
- Traced the upstairs lighting fault, separating a shared feed in a loft junction box
- Reconnected fittings and retested
Equipment used
- FuseBox consumer unit (all-RCBO)
- FuseBox SPD1MT2 surge protection device
- FuseBox 30mA RCBOs
