Reducing carbon emissions is something we genuinely believe in at SEG Group. It is also a big part of the work we do: solar PV, battery storage and EV charging are among the fastest-growing services we offer. It would be hard to recommend them to customers if we were not prepared to live with them ourselves.
32 solar panels on SEG House
When we bought our office on Watford Road in Chiswell Green, one of the first things we did was put 32 solar panels on the roof. The building now generates its own electricity during the day — the same hours our office is open.
It also gives customers something real to look at. When someone is weighing up solar for their home or business, being able to see a working system on our own building, installed by our own engineers, answers a lot of questions a brochure cannot.
EV chargers and an electric fleet
We have installed EV chargers at the office and run a fleet of electric vans. For a contractor whose engineers are on the road every day, vans are one of the biggest sources of emissions. Switching ours to electric — and charging them from a building with solar on the roof — is one of the most practical changes we could make.
It has also made us better at advising customers. Our engineers drive electric vans and charge them every day, so they understand charging, range and installation from experience, not just from a data sheet.
Why it matters for customers

- You can see it working. Visits to our office are by appointment — ask to see the system.
- It fits our local plan. More local work means shorter journeys, and electric vans make those journeys cleaner.
