Over the last few years SEG Group has grown to the point where, at our busiest, we have had 30 to 40 members of staff and another 20 to 30 subcontractors working with us. That growth has let us do something I am genuinely proud of: buy our own office and give the business a real high-street presence in St Albans.
More local work for local engineers
The new office is a big part of our five-year growth plan. The aim is simple. We want more of our work to be local, so that more of our engineers are working close to home — and so that more of what the business earns is spent and invested in the area we live in.
Local work is better for everyone. Shorter journeys, faster response times, engineers who know the area, and a business that the community can walk into and speak to face to face.
Giving back where we can
As the business has grown, we have tried to give back wherever we can. Through larger schemes we have delivered a lot of social value, and closer to home we have:
- given out Christmas hampers across the community;
- helped deliver shopping to old people's homes;
- lit up garage blocks that were unsafe at night;
- sponsored local children's football teams.
St Albans Football Club
For the last couple of years we have been a local sponsor of St Albans Football Club. It is a club without bags of cash, run on community spirit, where everyone does their part to give back. That is exactly the kind of organisation we want to stand behind.
The more local work we do, the more we can give back
That is the thinking behind all of it. A strong local business can support local clubs, local causes and local jobs. As SEG Group grows from its St Albans base, we intend to keep doing more of all three.
